EVERY PLAYER WANTS TO BE FASTER.

Almost No One Trains For It Correctly.

Ask any scout what separates players at the next level and you’ll hear the same answer: skating speed. But walk into most off-season programs and you’ll see the same mistakes:

Endless squats and deadlifts with no plan to convert strength into stride power
Speed drills borrowed from football and track that ignore how skating actually works
Conditioning that makes players slower by the third period of their training, let alone the third period of a game
Zero attention to the mobility and technique limitations that cap a player’s stride no matter how strong they get

Strength matters. But strength without mobility, technique, and a real speed progression is a fast way to build a slow player.

A COMPLETE SPEED SYSTEM

Not A Collection Of Drills.

Speed Training for Hockey breaks down every factor that determines how fast a player skates, then hands you the exact programs to improve each one:

The Science

What actually determines skating speed: rate of force development, stride mechanics, and repeat sprint ability. Explained clearly enough for a 14-year-old, rigorously enough for a strength coach.

The Technique

How to optimize stride depth, length, and efficiency — including the small technical corrections (like the toe flick at the end of the stride) that separate good skaters from great ones.

The Training

How to build strength that transfers to the ice, develop explosive acceleration on land, and condition for speed that lasts all three periods.

The Programs

Three complete 12-week off-season programs, built by age group:

U-14 (PeeWee) — building athletic foundations the right way

14–18 (Bantam/Midget) — converting growth into explosive speed

18+ (Junior/College/Pro) — maximizing speed at the highest level

The Video Database

Every exercise in every program, demonstrated on video, with equipment substitutions if you’re training in a garage instead of an NHL facility.

WRITTEN BY THE GUY NHL PLAYERS TRUST TO MAKE THEM FASTER.

Kevin Neeld, PhD is the Director of Performance for the Boston Bruins, where he designs and oversees the performance training program for some of the best hockey players in the world.

Before Boston: Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach for the San Jose Sharks. Five years with USA Hockey’s Women’s Olympic program. Seven years running one of the East Coast’s top hockey training facilities, developing players from youth to pro. PhD in Human and Sport Performance. Published researcher. Invited speaker for the NHL, NSCA, and USA Hockey.

This book is everything he’s learned about building fast hockey players — written for the players, parents, and coaches who don’t have an NHL training staff.

WHO THIS BOOK IS FOR

Parents

Of competitive players (10–18) who want a safe, proven plan instead of guesswork — and want to stop paying for programs that don’t work.

Players

Serious about making the next level and willing to put in a focused off-season.

Coaches & Trainers

Who want a science-based speed framework they can apply across a whole team.

Not For

Anyone looking for a magic drill or a shortcut. This is a 12-week system — it works if you do.

START YOUR 12 WEEKS TODAY.

A player who starts this program on July 1 finishes the week of tryouts. That’s not a coincidence — it’s how the programs were designed.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

No — the U-14 program is specifically designed for younger athletes, with age-appropriate progressions. It’s the program Kevin used with youth players for years.
The programs assume basic equipment, but the video database includes substitutions for minimal-equipment setups.
The 12-week programs are off-season focused, but the technique and science sections apply year-round. (In-season programming is covered in Kevin’s Ultimate Hockey Transformation.)

The book ships as a paperback, however, when you register to access the video database, you will also have an opportunity to download the digital format for your convenience.

The book ships through Amazon, so Amazon’s standard return policy applies to your purchase.
